          Overview

The midsize luxury SUV offered by Mercedes-Benz is called the GLE. For as long as anyone has wanted greater internal space than the smaller GLC provides, this has been a well-liked option. The primary configuration of the vehicle is an SUV with five seats, however in an emergency, a compact third-row seat can be added. The GLE receives a substantial modification for 2024. Redesigned exterior, an opulent interior, an improved infotainment system, and a new plug-in hybrid engine option are among the highlights.

A panoramic view of the GLE

When fitted with an optional air suspension, the Mercedes can provide greater off-road performance than competitors such as the Genesis GV80 and the Volvo XC90. It can also sway back and forth to aid in the GLE’s capacity to break free of sand or mud.

What’s New in the 2024 Model

The 2024 GLE-class SUV’s new plug-in hybrid drivetrain and redesign are the highlights. The most anticipated new model for 2024 is the GLE 450e. In comparison to the GLE 350 base model, it combines plug-in hybrid technology with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to boost power and fuel efficiency. Touch-sensitive controls have been added to the spokes of a redesigned steering wheel. The options sheet now includes new two-tone upholstery options in addition to updated chrome trim around the air vents.

Six trim levels are available for the Mercedes-Benz GLE in 2024: GLE 350, GLE 450, GLE 450e, GLE 580, AMG GLE 53, and AMG GLE 63 S. With the exception of the GLE 450e, which has a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, all trims come standard with all-wheel drive and a mild hybrid setup.

Engine Performance and Transmission

A nine-speed automatic transmission and a 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine with rear- or all-wheel drive dubbed “4Matic” by Mercedes power models bearing the GLE350 nameplate. A 362-hp turbocharged inline-six engine and standard all-wheel drive are included with the GLE450 upgrade. The GLE350 and GLE450 are hybrid vehicles that run on 48 volts.

With a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and an electric motor, the plug-in hybrid powertrain of the GLE450e generates 381 horsepower. The six-cylinder GLE450 reached 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, while the GLE350 we tested took 6.6 seconds. The Mercedes-AMG GLE580 is the most potent and costly non-AMG vehicle, even though the upgraded Mercedes-AMG GLE53 (reviewed separately) packs even more heat.

With a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and an electric motor, the plug-in hybrid powertrain of the GLE450e generates 381 horsepower. An innovative air suspension system that can lean into curves and even squirm free if the driver gets the GLE bogged in mud or sand is available for every model of GLE. Traditional steel springs and anti-roll bars are the conventional configuration.

     Fuel Economy

Remarkably, the four-cylinder, rear-drive GLE350 and the six-cylinder, all-wheel drive GLE450 have the same estimated fuel economy; both get 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the interstate (a combined 22 mpg). With a quicker rate of gas combustion, the V-8-powered GLE580 is predicted to get 16 city, 21 highway, and 18 combined mpg.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

Genuine leather, wood, and metal are examples of high-quality materials that not only add to the GLE’s overall impression of luxury but also significantly increase its cost. The center console lid and armrests can also be heated in addition to the front seats, which helps immediately remove the chill from a chilly morning. A third row of seats is an optional addition to the roomy cabin.

The GLE’s interior is replete with additional tech-focused bells and whistles, and its dashboard features prominent screens. We managed to put 11 carry-on luggage in the cargo space after stowing the optional third-row seats. When every seat is folded flat, the GLE can accommodate up to 26 carry-on bags.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The dashboard is almost entirely covered by two 12.3-inch infotainment screens that provide multiple ways to interface with the system, including the MBUX voice recognition system. Like Google’s virtual assistant or Apple’s Siri, MBUX can answer to a variety of queries, allowing the driver to retain their hands on the wheel while still controlling the temperature, activating the ventilated seat, or changing the radio station.

The infotainment system may be operated through touch thanks to a touchpad on the center console and a touch-sensitive screen. Even so, not every menu is organized logically. It is best to navigate them while the GLE is parked. Without a cord Being able to stay connected while on the go is made a little easier with standard features like mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Model Prices

Depending on the specification and options, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-class might cost anywhere from $63,800 to $87,850.
