Overview
When it was first established in 2018, Changan and Nio collaborated to form the business. Nio later left this joint venture due to financial difficulties. At the moment, CATL owns 17.1% of the shares while Changan owns 40.99%. The remainder are owned by other investment funds. Huawei is not a shareholder in this initiative, but it does supply electric motors, “brains,” and other components.
The Avatr 12 was once referred to as E12. Positioned as a full-size luxury sedan, it shares similarities with the Avatr 11 SUV-coupe and is built on the EP1 platform. The Avatr 12 is actually a liftback rather than a sedan. It adheres to the Avatr design language in terms of look. Its sleek body form, athletic bumper, and narrow headlamps are all signature features of the brand. The Avatr 12 also has a very small back window, thin taillight units, and cameras in place of side view mirrors.
When the electric sedan was first introduced on November 10, 2023, it was available for RMB 300,800, RMB 340,800, and RMB 400,800 for the single-motor version and two for the dual-motor version.
The three previously available variants of Avatr’s new Avatr 12 are still priced the same, but there is a new entry-level model available for less money.
So, What’s New?
The only electric car now available from Avatr Technology, the Avatr 12, now has a lower starting price thanks to an upgrade that was just released. Avatr Technology is supported by Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei.
On March 29, Avatr introduced the 2024 Avatr 12 with a beginning price of RMB 265,800 ($36,800). This is a decrease of RMB 35,000, or 11.64 percent, from the RMB 300,800 starting price of its predecessor.
There are four trim levels for the redesigned Avatr 12, with the single-motor rear-wheel drive version being the least expensive and the dual-motor four-wheel drive variant being the most expensive. RMB 265,800, RMB 300,800, RMB 340,800, and RMB 400,800 are their starting prices, in that order.
Avatr 12 Dimension
With dimensions of 5,020 mm by 1,999 mm by 1,460 mm for length, width, and height, and a wheelbase of 3,020 mm, the Avatr 12 is a mid-to-large-size sedan.
These measurements are comparable to those of the Nio ET7, which has a wheelbase of 3,060 mm and dimensions of 5,101 mm in length, 1,987 mm in width, and 1,509 mm in height.
Avatr 12 Battery Capacity and Range
With a max motor output of 230 kW and a peak torque of 370 Nm, its two single-motor versions can both accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
With an extra front motor producing 195 kW of peak power and 280 Nm of peak torque, the two dual-motor variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Every model in the lineup comes with a 94.5 kWh Li-ion ternary battery from CATL, which has a 700 km CLTC range for single-motor versions and 650 km for dual-motor models.
Avatr declared that it is the first to adopt the Panshi skateboard chassis that Changan and CATL collaborated on developing. It says that in a frontal accident at less than 120 km/h, the car won’t burst into flames or explode.
Avatr 12 Exterior
The new vehicle maintains the same style but adds new fluorescent gold paint. Paint pigments that change color are used in the new paint. Certain angles will cause the colors to change. 10,500 light beads are contained in the LED light strips on the front of the Avatr 12, which may display various sceneries with OTA updates. The absence of a rear window on the Avatr allows for a larger trunk. High-definition cameras are used in place of rearview mirrors in Avatr vehicles.
Avatr 12 Interior
It is powered by Huawei’s ADS 2.0 and HarmonyOS 4 inside the cabin. The steering wheel and seats are covered in Nappa leather as standard. There are two zero-gravity seats in the front that may be heated and massaged. Physical buttons on the central console are utilized for basic controls. It has a 15.6-inch touchscreen as well. The vehicle boasts 64-color ambient lighting, 27 speakers, and customized schemes.
The new vehicle has the Avatr OS 3.2.0 vehicle system installed. It has features including Navigation Cruise Assistance (NCA), which can automatically modify travel speeds in accordance with posted speed limits. When the car is at a toll station, it can also slow down. Three laser radars are standard on the new Avatr 12.
Avatr 12 will also get an EREV version this year; its specifications are still unknown; however it was recently discovered camouflaged during a road test in China.
