On December 28, 2023 , At the Xiaomi EV Technology Launch, Xiaomi formally unveiled the five key technologies of the Xiaomi EV: the E-Motor, Battery, Die-Casting, Xiaomi Pilot Autonomous Driving, and Smart Cabin.Additionally, the company wants to revolutionize automobile  technology by starting with the development of fundamental core technologies.

The much awaited Xiaomi SU7, the first product from Xiaomi EV, has been “pre-launched,” marking its global premiere in terms of design, performance, range, safety, and other aspects.Moreso, the Xiaomi SU7, positioned as a “full-size high-performance eco-technology sedan,” seeks to push the boundaries of mobile smart space, ecosystem, and performance.

The Chinese business Xiaomi created the battery-electric full-size vehicle known as the SU7. It is the first car from Xiaomi and is produced in Beijing under contract with BAIC Off-road. However, With customer deliveries for the Chinese market planned for February 2024, it was announced in December 2023.

The SU7 and SU7 Max are the two SU7 versions that are offered. Xiaomi claims that ‘SU’ stands for ‘Speed Ultra,’ and that the market sector of the car is represented by the number 7.

Coming So Far

In March 2021, Xiaomi declared its intention to join the electric vehicle industry. Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, declared that the project would receive 10 billion yuan (US$1.4 billion) in funding. With its headquarters located in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, Xiaomi Automobile was founded in 2021. Moreso, the firm acquired approval to construct vehicles from China’s National Development and Reform Commission in August 2023.

In December 2023, the SU7’s production got underway. It was unveiled on December 28, 2023. According to Xiaomi Group’s founder, chairman, and CEO, Lei Jun, the company’s foray into the automobile sector represents a substantial departure from the smartphone market and an essential step in completing the loop on the Human x Car x Home smart ecosystem. Lei Jun went on to say that there is not much room for maneuvering in the century-old automobile business today. According to him, “Xiaomi has decided to invest tenfold, starting from the development of fundamental core technologies, committing to constructing an outstanding vehicle.”

Design

The SU7 was created using the MS11 codename. Li Tianyuan, the chief designer, commanded the team after stealing from BMW. Lei Jun claims that he turned down three design ideas because of issues with durability. On the other hand, Xiaomi compared the vehicle to the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.

Additionally, the vehicle has an active shutter grille, an active rear wing with four adjustment levels, and air suspension with adjustable dampers. According to the manufacturer, the SU7 has the lowest drag coefficient in the world, at 0.195.

Engine and Power

The electrical design of the SU7 is 800-volt, with a maximum of 871 volts. The “HyperEngine V6 Series” is the name given by the manufacturer to the electric motors that power the SU7. The standard SU7 with rear-wheel drive operates at 400 volts with a power rating of 220 kW (295 horsepower; 299 PS) and 400 Nm (40.8 kgm; 295 lbft). Operating at 800 volts, the all-wheel drive SU7 Max produces 500 Nm (51.0 kgm; 369 lbft) and 495 kW (664 horsepower; 673 PS).

A 101 kWh NMC battery manufactured by CATL and branded as Qilin is used in the SU7 Max and is installed in a cell-to-body configuration. Also, the smaller 73.6 kW LFP battery is used in the standard, rear-wheel drive SU7. Additionally, Xiaomi intends to release models with 150 kWh and 132 kWh of batteries. Xiaomi claims that the SU7 Max can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 2.78 seconds, compared to the SU7 base model’s 5.3 seconds. The base model’s top speed is 210 km/h (130 mph), while the SU7 Max’s top speed is 265 km/h (165 mph).

Interior and Comfort

Xiaomi SU7 comes with a 16.1” touchscreen at the center, 7.1” facing the driver. Also, it has a heeated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass sunroof, front and rear sensors, 360 camera and reversing system.

It also has front, side, rear, head airbag system, 1 LiDAR, 3 mmWave radars, 11 cameras, and 12 sensors. Additionally, it has forward/Rear/Lateral Collision Prevention, Lane Centering, Lane Change Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, High beam Assist, Blind Spot Alert, Door Open Warning and also comes wit autonomous driving.
